A not so funny election story...

Election week is almost upon us (what a Christmas hey?), and it could quite possibly change the future of how the country is run.

I never want to tell an individual what party I feel they should vote. However, I think it is clear what party you should not vote. That is why I have written a little story to explain why people should not vote for said party...

You wake up in the morning, put on the kettle, and start your day getting ready for work. The radio announces updates regarding train strikes that are causing frustration for everyone, and you have to plan your day around avoiding the chaos at rush-hour. Unfortunately, those people striking are doing so because of the long, grueling hours they work for the minimal pay they receive. Despite the privatization of the rail network, there is no reduced fair cost, no increased spending on rail infrastructure across the country, no increase in pay for workers. Simply, an increase in profits for those at the top. Funny that?

As you continue to get ready, it is announced that the Hillsborough victims will not reach a point of justice. Thirty years of agonizing lies, hidden truths, and blame put on the innocent. All to protect those at the top and the image of one political party. Funny that?

As you start walking to work, you notice the increase in homelessness on the street. An astounding 1 in 393 people are classed as homeless within the UK. The struggle not only begins there but when they attempt to get back onto the home and career ladder, they are faced with policies are procedures which limit them in doing so. Only one party has catastrophically failed those people, yet they continue to perpetuate that they are the ones capable of reversing all the actions despite not producing anything meaningful that suggests they are going to tackle the issue of homelessness. Funny that?

On the way to work, you walk past the shell of a building, Grenfell Tower, in which the truth is still being kept from society. The cataclysmic scenes as the building was engulfed in flames due to the installation of cladding that was not safe is only half of the story. The neoliberal influence resulted in the deregulation of safety concerns by one party, which inevitably led to the deaths of those individuals from low economic backgrounds, as one party lacked empathy for those at the bottom. Despite trying to present an image of compassion and care when they are at fault for the death of not hundreds at just Grenfell, but millions across the country. Funny that?

You finally make it to lunch. Your friend, a nurse calls, they are having a breakdown. They are exhausted. They have just worked the nightshift, and due to the low number of staff, they have been asked to stay on for an extra few hours, despite paying more in tax than they will earn from the extra hours. They discuss how currently, the waiting time in the hospital is four hours minimum, patients are having to sit in corridors to receive treatment, and the level of stress and anxiety for staff has reached new highs. Yet, one party cut nurse bursaries aimed to tackle the lack of qualified nurses across the country. One party continually attempts to ruin the running’s of the best service Britain has to offer, all so they can sell it off to their tanned friend in the Whitehouse. Getting really funny now?

You get home from work. You now have a breakdown. You don’t want to be around anymore. Your employer has noticed a lack of productivity, and you are facing the inevitable dismissal because you are not fulfilling their requirements. You have reached a low and you cannot fathom the energy to pull yourself back out from the impending hole of misery you dig yourself into. You message a friend. They talk you through it and give advice that you need to get help, in which you agree. You make an attempt to book an appointment and are greeted with a two-week waiting list…

Two weeks later you are not able to make that appointment.

That is the harsh reality for so many across the UK. I am not telling you who to vote, but understand that all of the examples given are a result of one party's actions, as they attempt to boost their position in living the luxurious life as everyone else suffers.

It is time to move on from the toxic hatred, ignorance, and division that is echoed throughout society. It is time to come together and help one another so that we can all achieve some form of satisfaction within our lives that appears to be stripped away by one party.

I am not telling you who to vote, I am showing you who you should not vote.
